Swinging Paint Booth

Swinging Paint Booth

Flexibility

Our plenum swinging hangar door systems are available in many configurations to meet your specific requirements. Having built swinging plenum door systems over 30' tall, 85 feet in width, with door closed wind speeds up to 140mph and operational wind speeds to 80mph, we are confident that we can build a system that will meet your requirements and your imagination.

Design

Doors are designed using CAD and structural engineering software. Door frame structure and connection designs are certified by an independent engineer. Door frames are engineered using structural steel and cold formed members per AISC and AISI codes. Structural steel members adjacent to the air flow plenum are designed using structural steel tubing and steel pipe to reduce air turbulence and drag. Standard filter size considered is 24" x 24", however any size can be accommodated upon request. Wind loads are calculated using your location and building size for the most accurate structural loading possible. We don't make an assumption on the wind load by using an arbitrary standard, we check every time.

Construction

Door components are manufactured to the highest standards and designed to be completely bolt together, avoiding costly delays due to welding inspections and the availability of certified welders in the field. Door components are also designed to have as few connections as possible, simplifying and increasing assembly speed on the job. This lowers the total installed cost for your door system.

Support Wheels

We use hard rubber solid forklift style tires to support our swinging plenum doors. These tires provide excellent grip to help the door achieve high operational wind loads (rubber to concrete=60-70% weight to traction when dry, steel to steel=10-20% weight to traction when dry, depending on condition of wheel and steel rail). Our support guide wheel hubs are machined in house on CNC lathes and assembled using taper roller bearings to transmit the vertical forces imposed by the weight of the door and the lateral forces imposed by wind and seismic loads. Support wheels are supplied with grease fittings installed on the support axles and taper bearing adjusters. Support wheels can be removed from the support outrigger through the top of the wheel box, allowing bearing/axle maintenance without having to remove the door from the track.

Locking System

For exterior door systems (many of these doors have been installed behind other doors or on the interior of a hangar) we provide hydraulic locking pins that automatically extend when the door is reaches the closed position and automatically retracts when the OPEN command is given. A light mounted at the control push button station indicates the lock pin position so the operator can verify the lock pin has fully deployed when the door is in the closed position. Lock pin is equipped with a safety interlock so that door will not begin to open until the pin lock has been fully retracted.

Drive System

Drive motor(s) is installed onto a mounting plate that is adjustable for chain tension. Drive motor has a worm gear drive gearbox and is equipped with a motor brake that is directly mounted to the drive motor. Chain drive features an overload clutch to prevent damage in the case of overloading. Overload clutch is easily released, allowing manual operation in the event of a power failure. Hydraulic drive motors are used so that there is no chance of spark producing motor or high voltage wiring inside the paint booth area.

Weatherstrip

Weatherstrip is 1/8" cloth inserted epdm. Weatherstrip meets military specifications for durometer, UV resistance and incidental exposure to paint thinners. Plenum doors are designed with double runs of weatherstrip to ensure an air tight seal from the paint booth to the plenum door and to the building. Retainer bar is fastened by zinc coated self drilling screws every 8" for a secure seal without oil canning of retainer bar. Retainer bar is easily removed for replacement of weatherstripping if it becomes necessary.

Electrical Controls

Door control panels are manufactured in house using only the highest quality UL listed components. Door control systems utilize electromechanical relays that are highly resistant to electrical interference and have no programming that can become corrupted requiring service. Control panels are mounted on the exterior outrigger support frame so that the electrical controls are outside of the paint booth area. All penetrations through the door frame are made using rigid conduit with seal-offs installed at the bulkhead for hazardous location compliance. Door control systems also utilize solid state proximity sensors for limiting door travel. These sensors are water proof and have no moving parts to wear out. Door control systems can be supplied ranging from 12VDC to 600VAC. Variable frequency drives are available for custom tuning or varying of door drive speed. Variable frequency drives come with variable speed buttons with 3 adjustable speed settings standard, 5 speeds as an option.

Power Feed

Standard power feed system supplied is a drape cord design. The drape cord is installed near the upper hinge so that the cord is up and out of harm's way. Seal-offs are supplied to make the power feed a complete hazardous location installation. Rigid conduit is pre-installed in the door's base unit. Simply install the vertical riser conduits where necessary and pull your wire. Hazardous location junction boxes and seal offs are supplied for all conduit inside the door.

Standard options

Timer delay with safety noisemaker and/or strobe light, safety edge with delay and/or auto reverse, personnel door frames and safety interlock sensors, air drive operating system, hydraulic drive operating system. Door drive motors and control panels are fully assembled, wired and tested at our facility prior to shipping.
